ITS BEEN WELL OVER 15 YEARS SINCE IVE BEEN NEAR THE DEE ROAD ESTATE (LIVED ON THEMAIN ROAD ITSELF BETWEEN THE AGES OF 5-17) WHEN IT WAS FIRST BUILT. REALLY LIKED LIVING THERE (PLAYING IN THE "ALLOTMENTS" OPPOSITE ( WAS NOW ENTRANCE TO SPEY ROAD) SADLY DIDNT HAVE A VERY GOOD REPUTATION BACK THEN, HOPEFULLY THE DEE PARK RESTORATION SHOULD HELP TO IMPROVE ITS REPUTATION

Disappointment and disbelief in Colchester as well. Chelmsford's bid wasn't half as good as ours, and it was a long way short of being the popular choice in Essex.

I'm from Reading and I think we were too confident for our own good. Now I hope that the Oracle finally changes it's "City Centre" signs to "Town Centre". However, it's a big pay day for me as I put £100 on Perth to win as the Queen doesn't want Scotland to leave the UK.

I smell a rat. The total population of Chelmsford borough is about 150k whereas Reading''s population was 232662 at the 2001 census.

Howver, Chelmsford is on the western edge of the constituency of John Whittingdale, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Culture Media and Sport. No chance of him not being re-elected then.

It's not going to happen so don't waste tax payers money. It's obvious the Royal Family past and present have something against the town. The important thing is that most people think we are a city especially people from abroad so who needs a charter. We are still the largest town in the UK.

Could be double whammy if Reading F.C. continue in the same vein as the last few weeks and Reading fulfilling its potential as a city how good a year could this be? Fingers and toes crossed.. ..not you Simon Church!!

Its good to see RF organisers are finally realising that people don't simply have the odd £150 or whatever it will be this year sitting around. It might actually encourage people to budget ( rude word I know) and then appreciate the effort needed to attend such a great event. Don't know of many of the artists yet but wouldn't it be great to have someone like Adele, our fabulous Grammy winner, on the main stage.

Good to see someone from the community taking an active role in promoting this town that we live in in the bid to be granted City status. In fact Mr Dixon appears to have done more for Readings bid than others in more favoured positions. How truly great it would be for Reading to achieve this goal in 2012, the Queens Diamond Jubilee year, and I am sure the founder of The city of Reading should get some recognition for his efforts.
