Reading splash the cash
After 51% of the shares in Reading FC were bought by the Anton Zingarevich and Chris Samuelson Reading have dipped into the transfer market to strengthen their squad.
Jason Roberts is the first big name to come into the Reading squad, penning an 18 month deal. His previous clubs include, West Brom, Wigan, and Blackburn and also a short loan spell at Saturday’s opponents Bristol City.
Roberts has scored 161 goals during his career, and is a great addition to a Reading team that is in a rich vein of form at the moment, and will bring much needed strength and goal prowess as Reading push for the playoff in the second half of the season.
Roberts is also part of a sporting family with Uncles, Cyrille Regis, David Regis and Otis Roberts all had careers football careers, while another uncle, John Regis, who won Silver and Bronze as a Sprinter in the Olympics.
Joining Reading alongside Jason Roberts is Tomasz Cywka from Derby Country. Cywka is an attacking midfielder who has represents Poland at U21 level. He was in the starting line-up of the Derby side for the beginning of this season, in which Derby made their best start to a season for over 100 years. He has joined Reading on a Free until the summer, with the Royals having the option to extend his contract.
All in all, a good day in the transfer market for Reading who have strengthen their attacking options for their yearly second half of the season assault on the playoffs.
Another rumour, although not substantiated yet, links Reading to Doncaster striker Billy Sharp. I think we all need to view any speculation with a pinch of salt, as “Man City Syndrome” will no doubt descend on the Royals now it is public that we have an owner who is willing to invest. But whether you are pessimistic or optimistic about the new take over, one thing is for sure, as long as players of Jason Robert quality are attracted to Reading the dream of top flight football again is very much alive.
