Where does Reading sit in the City Status competition

With the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations just around the corner, who is involved?  We had a look last year at who was in the initial running for City Status, but that has changed with big names such as Blackpool pulling out due to economic hardship.

The Sun Newspaper has recently put together an article detailing the facts and figures of all of the towns that are in the hat for the biggest civic prize of this decade.

Although the article incorrectly puts Reading population at 154,020 by excluding the major suburbs of Earley, Calcot, and Woodley.  The article also sites that Reading is renowned for it’s music festival which attracts over 250,000 to Reading each year.

Last year will gave the 10 reasons Reading should be awarded City Status.  What do you think about these reasons?  Do you are, or can you think of better reasons why Reading should be given City Status
