Alok Sharma along with other delegates from Reading hit Parliament to put across the many assets that Reading has as part of the town’s continued push for City Status in 2012. The debate, secured by Reading West MP Alok, was to push Reading in the public eye as well as share the towns attributes with the wider community. In part of the debate, Alok said “Reading is truly a gateway to the rest of the country and we are open for business,” inferring that the town is the hub of the southern transport system, the capital of the Thames Valley and is ready for the next step in its long and successful history.
Alok rightly sighted that Reading has continued uninterrupted economic renaissance. “Biscuits, bulbs and beer have given way to IT, industry and innovation. We are an undoubted economic powerhouse.”
For those sceptics who think that Reading is just a town in Berkshire, before making any negative comments, you SHOULD read this script, because after reading it, if you still have the same opinion then your opinions are misguided. There are many reason Reading is a “City in
Waiting”, and hopefully next year if we win this competition, then those doubters will see positive changes over time that will help them realise their dreams and aspirations.
