So, the day after the Government gave towns across the UK the green light to prepare their bids for the much talked about City bid in 2012 what do the people think.

Well thanks for those of you who added posts promoting and supporting our website in the comments field on the Reading Chronicle website http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/roundup/articles/2010/12/02/49598-reading-begins-new-bid-to-become-a-city/  It is good that people can see that the City of Reading and the people of Reading are key to supporting the bid that will be submitted by Reading Borough Council and Reading CIC.

Unfortunately there have been some rather negative views on Reading entering the race for City Status on the Reading Post’s website http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/2083398_make_reading_a_city A lot of this stems from under estimating the benefits of being a City, and not realising that this bid will NOT COST THE TAX PAYER OR READING RESIDENTS A PENNY!

Over the coming weeks we will explain and analyse the details of the bid and try to assure people that this bid will benefit Reading and ultimately benefit you.  We will also be helping compile ideas for what Reading People think should go into the bid.

Remember people, this website is BY THE PEOPLE…FOR THE PEOPLE and by getting involved with stories and comments you are supporting Reading’s bid by promoting the people and events in the town.  Keep checking back to see how you could help the bid.

I agree Paul. Reading has to be heads above the rest of the competition. If they dont get it this time around I dont think we will ever get it

Its about time that Reading becomes a City. Its been threatening for years now and and needs to act. The fact we have a decent football team, rugby team, good transport and a high quality of life should help is beat off places like Milton Keynes!! We even have a website already built!!!!
