New updated story on station redevelopment http://www.thecityofreading.com/2011/01/03/reading-station-redevelopment-update-03-01-2011/

The Latest pictures of the vision for Reading Train Station and the surrounding areas are now available to view.

Project “Station Hill ” is a joint project involving Network Rail, Reading Borough Council and developers Sackville Developments Ltd, who are a Reading based development firm.  The investment is not a small one, with approximately £825m going into the project which is set to provide a new entrance to the station along with massive improvements of the track layout to improve this important hub of train travel in the south.

The development covers an area of 5 acres and will include offices, residential properties, and space for retail outlets such as cafes and restaurants.  There will also be an arts venue in the development to cater for Reading’s emerging arts scene.

These developments will change the appearance of Reading’s Skyline forever, and will provide a great central location for work and leisure.

This improvement is much needed on a key site which is first thing many people visiting the town see when they enter from the station.  At the moment, the area is run down, and comprises many buildings constructed as early as the 1970′s.

The area of the old bus depot (Below) has now become an eye saw, so this redevelopment will not only give Reading a new lease of life and business opportunities, but it will give the town a 21st century feel which makes economic sense whilst giving the people of the town something to be proud of.

This comes as Reading invests heavily in infrastructure with the near completion of the “Reading City Gateway” which has seen a complete revamp of the entrance to the town from the south via the M4 and A33.

So Reading is looking brighter by the day, and with all this investment going into the town, it will surely remain as one of the best places to work and live in the UK for many more years to come.

If you have any comments to make about this mammoth development, please feel free to leave them below.
